New Peeps Needed (GO!) LegitCMP 22/2/2010(Mon)08:31:26 No.513266
Making new boards right now would just be re-arranging chairs that nobody will ever sit on.

While most of the people on WC are great, we need people to add some new perspectives and increase activity. Lately it has seemed like the same people having the same conversations day in and day out. Perhaps some fresh blood would also lessen the immaturity that has overcome a few humorless people who are turning Wrestlechan into OMGSeriousBusinesschan.

The fact that we're dealing with the same tiny group day in and day out with no dynamism is probably a key factor in WC feeling stagnant to some. Having to weed out a few Universe kids would be a small price to pay to reclaim the old Wrestlechan where things were a great deal more lively, people were able to take a joke, and we actually had some new and different people showing up on the board and IRC and adding their two cents.

Agreed with the Universe needed. I've done advertising on the Universe and a bit on YT which should be bringing people in. Believe it or not there are some good users out there *gasp* Any bad ones we can give some warnings.

I think we could use /med/ to our advantage as well as that could get some people interested, even if it's simple uploads of new themes, they're still in high demand and getting people to at least check it out might get some new users.

Too be honest, we all seem to do is talk about advertising and we don't actually do anything. It really doesn't matter where, just do it and any necessary filtering through them can be done later. Fourdown advertising seems somewhat limited, since it doesn't really create more posting

We try and bring new people in, but remember to the untrained eye chans look boring as shit. No fancy logos, no fancy anything, and I imagine people outside of chan culture look on in bewilderment at the boards and wonder how to post. The Justin.tv method was working quite well when RVD would stream ECW and other stuff, we got a decent increase in numbers online.

Now I have an idea. RVD is streaming Wrestlemania. yes? We find a provider that is less likley than to pull our stream (like JTV), I'll embed the stream on a seperate page to the boards, and I'll put the IRC widget on there next to it. We advertise the stream carefully, and we pull people in. Of course some people will fuck off right after the PPV is over never to return, but we should be able to keep a good few here. IF we do this and we do it right, I think we could get a good 150 in our IRC during the PPV. The only thing that could be a bit annoying is the tons of mib_7144 type names in the IRC, but I guess we could try and make them change, and I'll make new HOPs and OPs for Wrestlemania if this plan goes ahead. I'll probably just convert /fcw/ into a stream page when I have some time.

Any more ideas?

Good idea. We don't need to take the web by storm or anything dramatic, but solid steps forward will give us what we want. Growing too fast might be just as much trouble as not growing at all, so by aiming for a minor influx of new people, we'll be doing the right thing.

this board is highly lacking in the humor department to be honest

i tried to recruit two people from irc but they didn't end up to be wrestlechan regulars because of how gay the irc was and one of them only posts on /wooo/ to lol @ faggot rage (most likely one of you posting anonymously on /wooo/) when he mentions my name

No, because a) there is no "we", we are all individuals and because b) we are not 14, and thus we don't rage at Cena because he's actually good.

On the actual topic. I feel that no newcomer will actually stay on a board that's dead.

To be honest, the lack of interest in the show threads is disheartening. No one here had shit to say about Superstars OR iMPACT last night? You all know I use the IRC, but the board should be the first priority here. Think about it, if you stopped by here for the first time and saw that NOTHING was said in a damn sticky, you'd think "this place is dead" and move on. I can also go over to /wooo/ and I see a couple of familiar names in their sticky right now, which makes it worse. Newsflash, this place is never going to be successful if the users it already has are just thinking of it as 420's backup.

Smark is right. I've noticed that some of our regulars posted in /wooo/'s show threads but not ours. Doesn't help us at all.

I do try my best to get a post into the show/PPV thread if I can since I can't always stay up during the show (Britfag times), but if I do (in recent memory, RR and EC PPV threads) it's almost just me bumping the thread. I could post a lot more in during the show/PPV thread, but I don't want it to make it look like I'm spamming. Every so often someone else posts but then it goes dead again. It's fun to talk about the PPV in IRC, but the board is a priority.

I do remember an anon saying a while ago that the IRC should be "locked" during the shows. Whilst I don't think that's a good idea, I think we can survive without IRC for a bit if it means we're helping the board.

EDIT: However, I've just found out that some do need the IRC, and that's fine with me.
Posting some Happy Zeke to lift the mood a little.

Yeah, I've been trying to avoid pointing that out but it's been fairly obvious. Heck, one poster, who shall go unnamed right now, even went to post in one thread that he would've posted on the thread but he had already marked in /wooo/'s thread, which was really a slap to the face for this board.
And as fun as talking on IRC, you rarely get insightful discussion back there and well, being an eurofag I rarely have the chance to go on IRC to spend time with you'se guys. Wish I did.

Punker Than You!tLnYpDEjfo 26/2/2010(Fri)05:16:01 No.519945

It's all perfectly understandable, Sirter. No need to apologize for time issues.

Unfortunately as for the show threads themselves, one key issue is this: you can't just force or intimidate people into changing their habits, which is what would lead to even less people being considered frequenters. I'll admit I don't post as much as I should, but a lot of that is because I don't feel I have anything of intelligence or wit or conversation's worth to bring up.

Locking IRC is an idea, but I also recall names mentioning that they "need" it for shows; while it sounds odd in theory it does show how it more or less is an extension of the board. Maybe to post more during commercial breaks or an otherwise boring segment (before saying "Aight, back to (show name), peace") could work, but often it is just a few select names posting that makes it seem...redundant.

Just don't get a little irked at a lack of posts for SmackDown pre/mid-show because I know how some people feel about the ever-looming thought of spoilers. That's why most conversation is over Saturday morning coffee, put a little more lyrically.
>>
I Demand Better Competition!3GqYIJ3Obs 26/2/2010(Fri)05:34:43 No.519971
We do need the IRC around for PPVs especially if we have a stream going. The WM stream page has an embedded mibbit thingy which will be useful if any new peeps come in.

Smackdown is understandable with time zones, since we have Youtube uploads and with it being on British TV before US TV. Plus Austrailia, but I don't think we have any of those. No real way to fully get around that. Saturday morning coffee is fine to be safe

I promise force or intimidation was the last thing I was trying to convey. It's a real issue, though. I promise it's not a personal thing either, those threads need comments every bit as much when you or Sham do them, and, while I get around to making most of the show threads first, when I don't I do make a point to comment about the show and usually thank you guys for the thread.

I'm just saying, there's always at least an option to post about the card for SmackDown, PPV and Superstars, the guest host and what you're hoping to see on Raw, slly txt about Bryan or whoever you like on NXT, and of course there are always plenty of lols to be had with TNA. Everyone always has something to contribute, even if it's minor. You personally shouldn't worry at all about whether you seem intelligent or witty, Punker, you're well liked here and I promise people will take the time to read what you say and they won't think it's dumb. Obviously, the more people post the more there is to reply to; so, even if just 4 or 5 of us take the time to give a little headsup on what we feel about what we could see, the threads could have many more posts to them by extension. We had 79 posts or something like that for our first Raw thread, and people can make all the excuses they want about other websites being down that night but most of us are still here and we could achieve something similar again with only slight changes. We've been here over half a year, we should be stronger than our first night and I think it wouldn't take much at all to start heading in the right direction.

I know the anonymous posters don't get the play the trips do around here, but I don't post a lot anymore simply because
1.) I am so burnt out on wrestling, I really despise a lot of WWE television and TNA is a bigger joke now than it ever was. It also doesn't help that I can't follow the products I'm actually interested in due to monetary problems (can't be spending shit tons of money on DVDs) or availability problems.
2.) The board is usually dead
3.) I hate to play this card but it's a bit trip-centric around here... sometimes I get the feeling I am literally the only truly anonymous poster here (I'm not counting trips posting anon for trolling purposes).

Anyway. Been here since day one and I still swing by now and then but I haven't wanted to post a lot and there haven't been threads to post in tbh. If I go to this indy show in a coupla weeks I'll give you a report (THE MOTHERFUCKIN POPE IS GONNA BE THERE, as well as Sojo Bolt but I could care less about her).

I love wrestling, I hate sports entertainment. I flipped on the end of RAW last night to see David Hasslehoff calling for Hornswoggle the lifeguard to come out and pop a whistle out of Santino's mouth. This is not wrestling, this is a god damned glorified sideshow, and I won't discuss it let alone watch it.
